How to Create a Vision Board

New Year's Day Ride

It is said that how you start the year is indicative of how they year will play out. I start with a bike ride with my cycling family and visions of the year ahead. However, I grew up eating black eyed peas for luck and collard greens for money. I’m not sure how well that worked out, but I do know a few ways make sure you get what you want in 2015.

So you can get ready for our virtual vision board party, I wanted to show you how to create a vision board. If you have never made one, it is kind of like your goals in picture form (for those of us who are more visual creatures 🙂

Step 1
Gather your materials. You will need:
Magazines
Poster board
Scissors
Glue stick
Markers
Glitter or anything else that showcases you personality

Vision Board Materials
Step 2
Before you start looking through magazines, take a few moments to think about what areas of your life you want to improve or focus on.

Ask yourself, what do I to create for myself? What do I want my life to look like?
Here are some major areas to consider:

Life Focus Areas

Step 3
Set aside time alone in a quiet environment or with your girlfriends. I love making a party of it!

As you flip through the magazines, cut out any images or words that you are drawn to, even if you don’t know why

One of my mentors was drawn to a picture of a woman meditating, she didn’t know why, she just put it on her vision board. A few years later she used meditation to heal herself from debilitating pain and began teaching others how to meditate. Pretty neat, huh?

Step 4
Arrange and attach the pictures in a way that feels good to you.
Some people make a collage, others dedicate areas of the board to areas of focus. It’s totally up to you, but I like to be able to clearly see what is going on.

Here is my board from 2014. I am rendered speechless when I think about how much of it I achieved in just 1 year.

Step 5
Display the board somewhere you can see it every day. Consider taking a few moments to close your eyes and imagine the life you want to create as if you have already done it.

How do you feel when you think about achieving these goals? How do you want to feel as you go through this process?

  1. I glad I came across your article yesterday, so I started curing out pictures to create my very first vision board. I always write New Years resolutions but of course like most people we have it tucked away and never see it again. I be glad to participate in the virtual party so keep me in touch
