My love of Crossfit and my Run-in with Rhabdomyolysis

Trying to get back into shape and be healthy, then be hospitalized for “working out too hard”  really sucks.  Below you will find an article written by an ER physician about rhabdomyolysis (the condition for which I was hospitalized) as it relates to endurance exercise, Crossfit and other physical activities.  Within it is a link to another article written by the founder of Crossfit.

If you’re wondering, although I miss it terribly, I along with my doctor, decided that I should take an extended break from Crossfit.  I also want to add that my particular instance may have been exacerbated by a non – Crossfit workout the day after the WOD (Workout of the Day) in question.

I still advocate finding an activity that you enjoy that will keep you seeking health and fitness for life.  I also advocate balanced workout programming that includes strength, mobility, agility, flexibility, speed and endurance at varying levels of intensity.  Always listen to your body and start off slow if you are just getting back or just starting to workout, but always give it your best.
